The Power Of An Idea In A Writer’s Life.

We all have ideas about the type of writers we want to be, the type of success we want to

achieve, the kind of impact we want to make and so much more.

Ideas are powerful and will determine our success or lack thereof as writers.

But who is giving us the ideas we are holding up for ourselves?

Are the ideas we are holding up positive or negative?

Are the ideas we have, motivating and spurring us on to achieve our goals?

Are they causing us to push the limits of what is possible or are they causing us

to think small, to expect little, and keep us comfortable where we are?

There is need to take stock of the ideas we have and look at the source of where we

get our ideas from. If we are getting our ideas from a negative source then we need to

cut it off right away. We can’t keep entertaining ideas that are hindering us from

being successful and achieving all that we want to achieve. We need to seriously

think about the people we hang out with too.

I had struggled with this for a long time. I didn’t believe I would ever become an author

and I didn’t believe I could be a success. The ideas I held up were all negative and it

played a big part in me quitting this whole writing thing for a season.

But eventually, it changed for me.

I don’t have nearly enough time to unpack how the change happened but what I can say

is that with the help of people who cared about me the process of change began.

A new set of ideas were given to me about what was possible for me and they challenged

me to take stock of the current ideas I had.

It would be great to say it took a few weeks but that would be false. It took a long time to

change the negative ideas I had. After seven years I finally published my first book.

So that should give you an idea of what was going on.

Negative ideas about what is possible for us need to go.

As I come to the end of this post I would like to share a few statements that helped me,

from a book I read about ideas.

  • Ideas are more powerful than death and ideas produce everything.
  • The most difficult thing to fight against is an idea
  • Ideas can be transferred and live on for generations
  • The only way to defeat a bad idea is with a better idea
  • Ideas are destroyed by ideas
  • You cannot live beyond your philosophy and belief system. You can only change when your philosophy changes, and your philosophy will only change when your ideas change.

The news is good if you currently have negative ideas. They can change. You are not stuck with

the negative ideas for life.

Get into the habit of giving yourself great ideas about what you can achieve and the kind of writer

you want to be. Let it become a habit.

Don’t wait for people to tell you how good you are, what you can achieve and what is and is not

possible for you. You can do that on your own.

Start today.

And with that I have come to the end of the post. I hope this has encouraged you.

Do you have something to add? Please do.

I would love to hear what your thoughts are on the topic.

See you soon
